The holes you see in the piece of bread are made by bubble of gas. The dough for making bread is prepared by mixing flour and water. Then a small amount of yeast is added to it. Yeast is a type of fungus that grows quickly when it is warm and damp. As it grows, a gas comes out of the yeast which bubbles up through the dough. It is yeast that gives bread its flavour and delicious smell.
